Lady Spartans: Follow The Pecking Order

Week 4: Monday vs. Reading, Tuesday @ Fenwick, Thursday vs. Chaminade Julienne Saturday @ Oak Hills

I hope my facts are right.
Our Girls Varsity Volleyball team consists of 6 seniors, 7 juniors and a sophomorre

If we're looking this good at the start of this year.... I'm really excited about next season.

Whoa!
Let's give credit where credit is due.

Stephanie Gruenwald- 363 assists (according to cincinnati.com)...and Counting. That is impressive.

What's awesome is how our girls are clicking. We haven't had a start to the season like this since 2005, 2004, 2003, 2002, 2001. Yeah. You're getting the picture.

Has our rebuilding phase ended?
Have we reverted back to our dominant ways?
--------------------
Cut The Questions!
--------------------

These girls are very humbled................ just taking it one game at a time.
They don't want to be compared to the past. They just want to focus on the present.
--And Again.
Who are we judge? - Let's stick behind our girls every step of the way.
Let's be the 'support system' to achieve our goals.
As a Team and As a Community, We can reach our dreams!

This is a new generation of volleyball. As much as I want to dwell on the past... I can't! I have to move on and focus on the future for our Lady Spartans. You can too!

----- But we need a leader------
Where are we gonna find one?
The Schawe ERA ended a while ago.
---------------------------------
Ryan Bedinghaus took over and he's become a Brave and Valiant Leader.
I like it when Alumni Step Up!, Stand Out!, And Take Action!
Along with Assistant Coach Jessica Hoeh.... This coaching duo has a bright future ahead of them.

Spartans Fought.... Aviators Ran (L10-23)

Momentum[moh-men-tuhm] –noun, plural
1. force or speed of movement; impetus, as of a physical object or course of events: The car gained momentum going downhill. Her career lost momentum after two unsuccessful films.

I'm so sorry to take you back to English class, but if you want one word to describe last friday night's game..... That has to be the word.

No Question About It
I was bummed out. I mean... We were up 10 in the 1st...---So Anyway. After a few minutes I start to realize it wasn't a bad game at all.

1...2...3...4 plays ----here or there--- We would've had ourselves a football game.
Honestly, there's no reason to worry about that loss.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now About that game

Roger Bacon 10 Sycamore 23
1st quarter
-Momentum was 'rich'... Intensity was at an all time high.... The crowd was there... the lights were on.----And we had ourselves a football game
The game starts out with great defensive on both sides......Then an --all out attack--
Late in the 1st.. Jorian Hudson punches it in for 6.
Sycamore later misses a field goal. -- And now, at this point in the game, you see the Momentum shift over to the Spartans bench.
- Late in the 2nd quarter- Nick Linder nails a 39-yarder.
we recover an onside-kick that was executed perfectly.
Now Momentum is rolling.... It's in the Air... It's in the Water Bottles.
Preparing to go into half-time with a 10-0 lead. 1 play takes a punt return away from us and the story writes out itself.
But can you blame the kid. He's filled with excitement. He was itching to block a punt. Instead, he jumps a little early. A sure <4th> punt...turns into a <1st-10> for Sycamore
Momentum Shifted

After the team lost momentum we couldn't compose ourselves to perform to the level we had the last two weeks.

But we can't blame anyone...

1. We aren't out there to begin with. We have no clue how it feels to lose momentum on the football field.
As much as we can hope.- A support system is all we need to push and pull forward to future victories for our football team.

You Blame Momentum.

Sycamore scores with 19 seconds left in the 1st half.... and takes momentum with them to score 16 more unanswered points in the 2nd half.

Notables:
Player of the week- Jake Rose 3 receptions for 102 yards

Josh Ungerbuehler 9 for 21, 138 yards, 1 INT

Valiant Effort- Jorian Hudson 8 carries for 30 yards, 6 receptions for 51 yards

Shootout @ Cambell County (L 28-31)

(Photo Larry Babels)
Battling with cramps last week, Quarterback Josh UngerBuehler mustard up an 'offensive clinic'...Putting up some serious numbers. He threw for 158 yards, and rushed for 84.

Roger Bacon 28(1-1) Cambell County 31

Just one bad quarter separated us from a win last Friday night. A miscue interception and a forced fumble...besides that, everything was clicking on all cylinders... 'on offense'.

On defense, both of our opponents in the past weeks have 'matched us' on the scoreboard. So it must be really simple... If we can control not turning the ball over and consistently run for 100+ yards, throw for 200+ yards... don't forget putting up 28+ points a game.... We will consistently win hard-nosed football games.

Notables

Spartan Top-Performer of The Game: Josh Ungerbuehler
12 fof 23 158 passing yards, 1 td, 84 rushing yards
Tanner Sprong- 62 passing yards, 2 tds
Jorian Hudson- 151 receiving yards, 1 td

Lady Sparatans Kick Off The Season 2-0 Heading Into Princeton

http://preps.cincinnati.com/school.aspx?s=1019
RB vs. NCC(2-0) RB vs. Mercy(2-1) Record:2-0

I'm gonna say this before I start. I'm not a volleyball expert, but what I saw Monday was... The Varsity girls putting on a clinic. Either they were getting the lead early and running away with it or coming from behind and dominating. I've never seen a group so determined to win.

Well, let me rephrase that. I forgot that our volleyball program was one of the best in the State. And, I'm not telling you what's coming to our school in two years. (Inside Information) But what I saw Monday was great communication between the players. And excellent coaching. Calling timeouts when they needed it...and letting them play on just to get the feel of being under pressure at home.
But there was no sense of counting the Lady Spartans out. It took a loss in the second game against Mercy...,in which the Spartans battled hard, just for them to realize that it's not going to be easy to seal wins. I may be wrong, but in their only 'game' loss. They scored 13 of the final 19 points and in the deciding game it took a 9-2 run to put Mercy away for good. 25-22.

Twas a great start to the season. And I hope their tactics in the Fogarty transfers against Princeton Thursday @ Princeton.

I will talk to Assistant Coach Jessica Hoeh on the Skyline Hotline on Thursday about what she's looking forward to heading into the Princeton match.

Another Note: That student section was pretty poor. It got the job done, but it wouldn't hurt for another ten of you to show up. I know it's early in the year and the homework......- It can become a problem. But I saw a lot of Spartans out there doing their homework in Tommy J's(Fogarty). Find a couple of pennies...and take an hour of your time, with your books, to support our girls.
