Roger Bacon 23 - Dayton Carroll 8.
(by Jim Kalla Lead Statistician)
The game started out as a defensive struggle for both teams. The first scoring attempt occurred when Carroll attempted but missed a 31 yard field goal with 2:20 left in the first half. On the next series Bacon failed to make a first down and punted from their own 17 yard line. The punt was fumbled by Carroll and RB's Dalen Wess recovered the ball on Carroll's 44 yard line. On the next play Tanner Sprong connected with Mike Jackson for a 44 yard TD reception and the PAT kick by Nick Lindner gave RB a 7-0 lead with 1:15 left in the first half. NickLindner then kicked off out of bounds and Carroll got the ball at their 35 yard line. Bacon held Carroll to 8 yards over the next 3 plays and Carroll was forced to punt to the Bacon 24 yard line where Brian Bien made a fair catch to give RB the ball with 00:40 left in the half. Tanner Sprong then had completions of 9 yards, 22 yards and 13 yards along with a quarterback rush of 15 yards to move the ball to the Carroll 17 yard line with 00:08 left on the clock. He then hooked up with Mike Jackson for a 17 yard TD pass with 00:04 left on the clock to give RB a 13-0 lead (Matt Lindner's PAT attempt missed) at the end of the first half. Bacon scored again in the 3rd quarter on a 42 yard field goal by Nick Lindner and on a 19 yard TD pass from Tanner Sprong to Will Farrell and RB had a 23 -0 lead at the end of the 3rd quarter. Carroll mounted an 8 minute 55 second scoring drive late in the 4th quarter to give them their only score with 00:45 left in the game. They converted a 2-point PAT on a bad-snap recovery by their kicker whose pass bounced off a couple players to be caught for the 2 point PAT by one of their linemen. This was Bacon's first win ever against Carroll in a series that began in 2001 when Carroll beat Bacon in a first round OHSSA playoff game. The series now stands at 1 win for Bacon and 5 wins for Carroll. With this win Bacon now has a 5 win - 0 loss record and is the leader in the GCL Central with a 2 win - 0 loss conference record. The last time Roger Bacon started the season 5 - 0 was 1997. That makes this start the 14th best start for RB in their 83 year history.
